Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist
Having been an athlete most of my life, I have a personal passion and understanding of sports and the specific challenges that athletes face. Whether it be managing performance related anxiety, negative self-talk, injuries, or focus issues, I take a strengths based approach to building a mental game that enhances your physical game. Sports can provide immense fulfillment, but they can also create unique pressures and competition that require emotional awareness and mental balance. This is where I provide applicable tools and therapeutic support for sustainable, long-term success.
I earned a Bachelor’s degree in Film & Media studies at Whitman College before pursuing a career in the entertainment industry. After co-founding a non-profit and working with high level performers such as Leonardo DiCaprio, Jennifer Lawrence, and Reese Witherspoon in talent management, I learned how to support individuals at the peak of their careers. With this experience, I changed my own career to psychology in hopes of helping individuals improve their lives. I went on to earn a Master's degree in Counseling Psychology from The Wright Institute in Berkeley, CA and gained my associate license from the Board of Behavioral Sciences.
I have worked in a variety of clinical settings, including San Francisco’s Mission High School as a therapist with Richmond Area Multi-Services where I provided in-person counseling services to high-risk adolescents and worked closely with the athletic department to support student athletes, teams, and coaches. In furthering my development as a sports therapist, I trained with sports psychologist Dr. Sari Shepphird in a year long weekly sports psychology consultation group. I have also widened my scope of practice to include working with adults with a variety of severe mental illnesses at UCSF Citywide, in order to treat athletes of any age and any experience.
I am trained in trauma-focused empirical treatments, psychodynamic approaches, and crisis management, all of which create results on the field or the court. My clients experience everything from anxiety, depression, trauma-or identity related issues, especially in how these issues prevent growth, decrease enjoyment in playing, and can contribute to disordered eating or exercise. Through individualized therapy sessions, I work with athletes to identify their goals, develop skills to directly address their specific challenges, and create ways to cope with and manage stress more effectively. I am an intuitive, action-oriented therapist with a drive to help people feel and perform their best!
